Beatrice "Bea" Daniel Collins departed this life for her Heavenly home on September 3, 2021, at 6:00p.m. at her home in Wittensville, Kentucky.  Bea was born on May 2 to Theodore "Jack" Daniel and Recettia Taylor Daniel, who precede her in death.

After being saved and baptized, Bea joined the Tom's Creek Freewill Baptist Church on November 23, 1952.

Bea is a 1958 graduate of Oil Springs High School.  Following graduation, she attended Mayo State Vocational School and received her Cosmetology License.   She opened her first beauty salon in 1961 and later moved her salon, Bea's Beauty Shoppe, to Wittensville, where it remains today.

On May 6, 1959, Bea married Johnnie Hubert Collins, who survives.

In addition to her husband, Bea is survived by three brothers, Paul Dencil Daniel and his wife Cathy of Wittensville, Kentucky; Theodore Darrell Daniel and his wife Janet of Grove City, Ohio; Roger Dean Daniel and his wife Phyllis of Wellston, Ohio; and one sister Connie Deniece Bayes and her husband Bob, of Collista, Kentucky. Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ray and Carol Magnifico of Lakewood, NJ. Ten nieces, five nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews also survive.

Bea loved her profession and all her clients.  They were more like family to her.  Most days you could see her in the window of her shop with a comb and scissors in her hand.  The phone in her shop rang non-stop and when call waiting came about, a busy signal was often still heard as she scheduled one client, with another on hold.  But when you did get through, you knew you'd reached the right number when you heard her voice on the other end answer with the very distinct "Beauty Shop."

She used her experience as a Cosmetologist to serve the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a member of the Kentucky Board of Hairdressers for twenty-four years, originally appointed by Governor Paul Patton.  Most of those years, she served the Board as President and lobbied the Legislature for bills that would ensure all individuals attending a Cosmetology school in Kentucky would receive the best education and be prepared to practice their craft upon passing their board exam.  Bea loved serving on the Board, but she also loved the opportunity traveling the Mountain Parkway to Frankfort two weeks each month gave her to spend time with two of her nieces.   Leslie was in college at Georgetown and Lisa was living and working in Central Kentucky. At least one night each month she would take them to dinner and catch up on all that was going on in their lives.

Bea was very active with the Women's Democrat Club of Johnson County. She walked hundreds of miles and drove over all of Johnson, Martin, and parts of Pike County campaigning for Hubert during the many years he served as a State Representative.  During Apple Day, you could often find her sitting in the window of the Democrat Booth selling hot dogs.

She loved the Tom's Creek Freewill Baptist Church and its members. Perhaps her favorite event held by the church was Vacation Bible School.  Every summer she would carry a carload of kids from Collins Drive to the church.  It was her desire to see all the neighborhood kids learn about Jesus.  And undoubtedly her most cherished recognition was the year she received the Mother of the Year award from the church's youth.

But above all, Bea loved and cherished her family.  She was happiest when they were all together celebrating Thanksgiving or Christmas and simply enjoying spending time together.  Many years ago, it became a tradition that she and Hubert would fix Christmas breakfast for all the family who could gather at their house on Christmas morning.  Her dining room table was filled with all the foods that make a country breakfast.  She even accepted "special requests."  You see, Hubert liked gravy made from ham.  Lisa liked gravy made from sausage.  So, there were always two bowls of gravy on the table! But that was Bea! Her heart was as big as the purse she carried, and all our lives are richer because of her.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Tom's Creek Free Will Baptist with James Kelly Caudill officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021 and 9:00 a.m. until time 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Visitation will begin at Tom's Creek Free Will Baptist from 12:00 Noon until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.
