Christopher (Chris) William Lewis, age 48, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on the afternoon of March 31, 2022, at Baptist Louisville Hospital. Chris fought a 17-year battle with the effects of schwannomatosis (neurofibromatosis type III) and decided that no longer would he let the disease try, and frequently fail, to rule his life. He departed this life on his terms and his alone.

Chris was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on the grand day of October 7, 1973 to his father, Donald Gene Lewis, and his mother, Londa Lynn Lewis. His parents preceded him in death — Donald Lewis on March 4, 1994 and Londa Lewis on October 10, 2015.

He is survived by his two brothers, Brandon Leigh Lewis, 40, of Lexington, Kentucky and Paul Donald Lewis, 52, of Louisville, Kentucky in addition to many cousins, uncles and aunts on both sides of the Lewis and Wheeler families. He is also survived by his two dogs, Dakota, age 8, and Hershey, age 4, yes, named after the chocolate bar.

He attended high school at Johnson Central High School and then Harlan High School. He also attended the University of Kentucky and then the University of Louisville. He worked various retail positions, primarily at Target. He loved to find the sales and bargains at local stores, purchase items and frequently donated large bundles to the Home of the Innocents in Louisville, Kentucky. He also enjoyed walking his two dogs, circling the neighborhood, running into neighbors and keeping an eye on happenings around the 'hood and report findings back home.

In summary, Chris would tell everyone these things to remember: Enjoy the simple things, give when you can, keep family close and breathe fresh air more often. You never know what the next day holds. Like Chris has said, "simple man, simple life".

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life on April 5, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home, 807 South Mayo Trail, Paintsville, Kentucky 41240. The Celebration of Life will be followed by a procession to have a brief service by Ronnie Spriggs and to inter Chris alongside his mother and father at Highland Memorial Park, 551 KY Route 2275, Staffordsville, Kentucky 41256.

Please send flowers or expressions of sympathy to Jones-Preston Funeral Home. Donations to the Home of the Innocents in Louisville, Kentucky, in the name of Christopher William Lewis would also be welcome.

Fight on the good fight and remember — bask in the sunlight as often as you can.
