Gerlene "Geri" Maxey, age 87, of Paintsville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024 at St. Joesph East Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky.
Geri was born February 12, 1937 at Flat Gap, Johnson County, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lemaster, husbands, James Mack Howard, Raymond "Ray" VanWinkle and William "Bill" Maxey, as well as one step daughter, Darlene Cain.
She is survived by two sons, Phillip (Paula) Howard of Flat Gap, Kentucky and Ray (Kerry) VanWinkle of Richmond, Kentucky; two daughters, Melinda Curtis of Flat Gap, Kentucky and Myra (Tony) Burkett of Paintsville, Kentucky; one step daughter, Mary (Rocky) Cunningham of Bushnell, Florida; six grandchildren, Holli (Jerry Brian) Kehler, Derrick (Terra) Williams, Jerred (Stacy) Curtis, Channing VanWinkle, Logan VanWinkle, and Trey (Laken) Clay; eleven great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
Geri gave her life to the Lord as a teenager which began a life-long journey of service to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Lowmansville First Church of God, Lowmansville, Kentucky where she served as Church Treasurer and in any other capacity where she could be used of God.
Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 Noon Tuesday, September 24, 2024 in the Lowmansville First Church of God with Pastor Doug Kestner officiating. Burial to follow at Lemaster Cemetery, Flat Gap, Kentucky. Friends may visit Jones-Preston Funeral Home Monday, September 23, 2024 from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation Tuesday, September 24, 2024 will be at Lowmansville First Church of God from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 Noon.
