Grace Barber, 93, of Paintsville, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2021 at the Mountain Manor Nursing Home in Paintsville, Kentucky.

She was born January 1, 1928 in Johnson County, Kentucky, the daughter of Clarence and Ella McKenzie Kerns. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four sisters, Jessie Eigensee, Neva Evelyn Brown, Ruth Castle Maddox and Doris Annette Kerns; five brothers, Howard Kerns, James Kerns, Jack Kerns, Richard Kerns, and Kenneth Kerns; her son-in-law, Richard Henry Potter II; and by two grandchildren, Tanya Potter Bailey and Richard Henry Potter III.

Grace is survived by her loving husband of over 74 years, Bryan Barber of Paintsville; four children, Donna Potter of Dudley, North Carolina, Connie (James) Phelps of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tim (Joann) Barber of Staffordsville, Kentucky, and Deborah (Paul David) McKenzie of Paintsville; four grandchildren, Amy Phelps of Franklin, Indiana, Melissa (Tommy) Estep of Noblesville, Indiana, Eric Potter of Dudley, North Carolina and Matthew (Charity) Barber of Madisonville, Kentucky; one brother, Douglas (Madge) Kerns of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Grace served her country during WWII assembling radios for military use in a Lexington, Kentucky factory. Following the war, she worked for several years as a nursing assistant and private duty nurse at the Paintsville Hospital. She also worked as a store clerk in the TG&Y Department Store.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2021 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tyler Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2021.
