Ivan Gene Salyer, age 86, of Sitka, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021 at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.

Ivan was born February 28, 1935 in Johnson County, Kentucky, son of the late Hebert and Fayne Stambaugh Salyer.

He is survived by his wife, So Hui Hyun Salyer; three daughters, Debra (Jonathon) Charles, Ivy Salyer and Sonya (Brian) Holder; three grandchildren, Jonathon P. Charles, Lincoln Holder and Sullivan Holder; special niece, Phyllis Tackett; special nephew, Anthony Davis; and a host of additional nieces, nephews and friends.

Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2021 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Derrick Meade officiating. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Friday, August 6, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m.

Full military honors will be conducted by Auxier Chapter 18 DAV.

Ivan was a proud United States Army Veteran. He retired in July of 1986 after 30+ years of service. During his tenure, medals he received were, Meritorious Service Medal (10LC), Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal (9 ^th award), National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Valorous Unit Award, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Vietnam Service Medal w/6 Campaign Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 device, Vietnamese Cross Dual Badge, Rifle M-16 Expert Qualifications Badge.
