Obituary

Ivon Huff, aged 89, peacefully departed his home in Winchester, KY, on the evening of January 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 25, 1934 in Hancock County, KY, to Ellis and Zoa Huff, his life was a testament to love, family, and enduring connections.

At 19, Ivon ventured from Fordsville to Paintsville, KY, working in the oil fields. Destiny intervened at a Paintsville skating rink, where he met his future wife, Patsy, who he married a year later. In 1956, he found fellowship and community in the Van Lear Freewill Baptist Church, where he became a devoted member. His dedication deepened over time and he served for many years as youth director and as a deacon, a position he held until the end of his life. He was an especially beloved Sunday school teacher, and his thoughtful lessons touched the hearts of many.

Ivon was a pillar of strength. His dedication and work ethic left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a devout Christian with unwavering faith, and his devotion to his family was unparalleled. As a husband he embodied love, respect, and kindness. And as a father, he instilled values that will endure for generations, leading by example a life of virtue and integrity. As a grandfather, Ivon was gentle, patient, and tender-hearted. He was quick to express his love and share his wisdom.

Ivon perhaps felt most at home in the woods and on his bicycle, which he frequently took for long rides. He loved nature and was particularly fond of watching birds and listening to birdsong. He could always find the best walking sticks in the woods, and knew the name of every type of tree. There was a peacefulness and contemplativeness about him that grew with age. He truly knew how to appreciate the simple things in life and remarked on the beauty of every single day. Though our hearts ache with his absence, we find comfort in the legacy of love, faith, and commitment that he left behind. He will forever be remembered smiling, face upturned toward the sun, savoring this life.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Patsy Huff, and is survived by his children Beverly (Huff) Toole and Bret Huff, and six grandchildren Aubrey Toole, Oliver Toole (with wife Kelly), Jordan Miller (with wife Katie), Ethan Huff, Megan Huff, and Madisan Huff. He is also remembered by his son-in-law, Pat Toole, daughter-in-law, Tammy Huff, and two sisters, Evelyn and Ellen Huff.

Preceding him in death are his parents, and siblings Denny Huff, Don Huff, and Ethel Huff.

A memorial honoring Ivon's life will take place at Calvary Christian Church on Saturday, January 27th, starting with visitation at 12:00pm and the service at 1:00pm. Reverend Harry Neal Frisby from Eastside Free Will Baptist Church will officiate, with assistance from Pastor James Bush of Calvary Christian Church. Join us at 15 Redwing Drive, Winchester, KY, 40391, to celebrate Ivon's life. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to support hospice care.
