Jack Daker Pelphrey, 87, passed away at his home in Staffordsville, KY on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

As the husband of Lillie Virginia Burchett Pelphrey, they shared a blessed and cherished marriage of 56 years together. Jack was born in Staffordsville, KY on December 9, 1933, the sixth of seven children to the late Challie and Malta Jewell Rice Pelphrey. Jack honorably served his country in the Army of the United States for two years stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. After his service, Jack completed his education at Morehead State University earning a BS degree in Industrial Arts, an AB in Physical Education and a Master's in Education. Jack taught for twenty-eight years. He taught in Ohio for seven years and in Kentucky for twenty-one with his last seventeen being in the Lawrence Country High School Vocational Department. While teaching in Ohio, he also coached basketball, baseball and was an assistant for the football team. He also served as the Safety Supervisor in the coal industry for Rebel Coal Co for nine years.

Jack was a member of First Baptist Church of Paintsville. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 381 for over 65 years. He loved serving, supporting and encouraging the youth athletics of Johnson County: Paintsville Little League, Babe Ruth, and Paintsville High School Tiger Athletics and Johnson County Sports. He enjoyed playing golf at Paintsville Country Club. Known as a man of extreme loyalty and honesty, Jack loved to laugh, joke, and talk politics with everyone he met and especially with his "Hardees Boys".

Jack is survived by his wife, Lillie Virginia "Jennie" Pelphrey; sons John Leslie Pelphrey (Tracy) of Cookeville, TN and Jerry Lema Pelphrey (Julie) of Somerset, KY; and daughter, Jacqualine Pelphrey Prince (James) of Kill Devil Hills, NC; grandson, Jaxson Hamilton; granddaughters, Challie Elizabeth, Grace Donovan, Lillie Elaine "Laney", and Mary-Katherine Kennedy "MK"; sisters Ruby Blanton of Van Lear, KY, Betty McKenzie, Staffordsville, KY, and Mabel Hazlette, Hager Hill, KY; and many adored nieces, nephews, and friends. "Papa Jack", as called by his grandchildren, was known and loved by many. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Challie Pelphrey and Kelsey Edward "Bud" Pelphrey and sister, Agnus Van Hoose.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at First Baptist Church with Seth Carter and Ben Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Cemetery. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 and at First Baptist Church Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m.

Masonic service will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 by Paintsville Lodge 381.

Full military honors will be conducted by Auxier Chapter 18 DAV at First Baptist Church.
