James "Hargus" Curtis, age 91, of Flat Gap, KY, passed away Sunday evening, November 2, 2025, at Mountain Manor of Paintsville.

He was born on August 1, 1934, in Morgan County, KY, to the late Walter and Ida M. McCarty Curtis. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two daughters, Patti Castle, Kathy Curtis; one brother, Charles Dowell Curtis; three sisters, Lurie Fyffe, Ann Foust, Joy Nell Curtis; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one great-great-grandchild.

On July 12, 1982, he married Barbara Ann Lantrip Curtis, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Tommy (Louann) Curtis of Sitka, Walter Lee Curtis of Sitka, Chris (Alice) Martin of Lancaster, OH, Sean Curtis of Flat Gap, Seth Curtis of Flat Gap; three daughters, Connie (Freddie) Lemaster of Staffordsville, Debbie (Mike) Hayden of Meally, Suzanne (Scott) Collins of East Point; seven brothers, Robert Earl Curtis, Donald Jay Curtis, Billy Joe Curtis, Gene Argus Curtis, Jimmy Curtis, Rocky Curtis, David Curtis; two sisters: Linda Rice, Carrie Hunt; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren, as well as two great great grandchildren on the way.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1 P.M. Thursday, November 6, 2025, in the chapel of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home with Denvil Mollette and Tim Salyer officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, and on Thursday from 11 A.M. until the time of services at 1 P.M.
