James Nathan VanHoose, age 93, of Lowmansville, KY, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at his home.
He was born August 27, 1932, in Johnson County, KY, to the late Nathan and Oakie Music VanHoose. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Della Mae VanHoose and Sarah Rachel Krecha; and three brothers, George Edward VanHoose, Edward VanHoose, and Ernest Lowell VanHoose.
He is survived by his wife, Alice VanHoose, one daughter, Heather Baldwin of Oil Springs, KY, two sons, Jay (Kelley) VanHoose of Bainbridge, OH, and Nathan (Megan) VanHoose of Lowmansville, KY, along with 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Also surviving are three brothers, Donald (Sue) VanHoose of Lowmansville, KY, Robert Cecil VanHoose of River, KY, and Matthew VanHoose of Lowmansville, KY; and one sister, Opal (Cortis) Williams of West Liberty, KY, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
James will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He always loved having a house full of family as long as there was plenty of coffee and the kids weren't too loud. You could never find anyone to work harder than James. He was a member of the Operating Engineers for 57 years and was never afraid to track up the side of a mountain, often outworking much younger operators. In addition, James owned and operated his own trucking company for over 40 years. He worked many long hours, and this meant the whole family did as well. James' work ethic has been instilled in all of his children.
James was a wonderful man and will be missed by all who knew him.
