James Willis Prater, age 95, of Volga, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Highlands ARH.

James was born April 23, 1927 in Johnson County, Kentucky, son of the late Wardie Joe Prater and Beulah Ethel McKenzie Prater. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sara Margaret Holbrook Prater, son, James Linville Prater, brother, Geroge Prater, and sisters, Avonelle Finley, Neva Lee McKenzie, Ernestine Lemaster, Anna Mary Holbrook.

He is survived by one daughter, Brenda Brown and husband Jonathan of Volga, Kentucky and two brothers, John Prater of Volga, Kentucky and William Edward Prater of Flemingsburg, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Fish Trap United Baptist Church with Sammie Reed and Danny Williams officiating.  Burial will follow at the Prater/Picklesimer Cemetery, Volga, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Friday, January 27, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Fish Trap United Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m.
