JoAnn Athington VanHoose, age 85, of Nippa, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Highlands ARH.

JoAnn was born October 7, 1940 in Lawrence County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Harkles Athington and Anna Mae Kirk Athington. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son, Wayne VanHoose; and four sisters, Dorothy Scott, Gladys McDaniel, Ethel Mae Borders, Frances Athington.

She is survived by her husband, MJ VanHoose; one son, William "Bill" VanHoose (Velvet) of St. Marys, Iowa; three grandchildren, Hayden VanHoose (Bridget), Alexandria "Alex" VanHoose and Katherine Pattinson (John); and two great-grandchildren, Cohen & Emmett.

Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 Noon Monday, April 13, 2026 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Tim York officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Sunday, April 12, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Monday, April 13, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 Noon.
