John Richard Barker, age 79, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Highlands ARH.

John was born May 20, 1943 in Johnson County, Kentucky, son of the late Earl Barker and Helen Swentzel Barker . In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Stapleton Barker; one brother, William Barker.

H e is survived by five sons, Richard Barker of Paintsville, KY, Christopher J. Barker (Micki) of Lake City, FL, Jason Barker, Fayetteville, NC, Joe Crider, St. Robert, MS and Lee Caldwell (Barb) of Salyersville, KY; six sisters, Deanna Elam, of  TN, Bonnie Barker, of  Hager Hill, KY, Susan Kachenmeister, of OH, Wanda (Larry) Salyer, of  Salyersville, KY, Robin (Jeff) O' Bryan, of Hager Hill, KY and Vanessa (Freddie) Belcher, of Pikeville, KY; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services we conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Donnie Witten officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2022, 12:00 Noon until 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2022 and 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022.

Masonic rights will be conducted 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2022 by Van Lear Masonic Lodge #885

Full military honors will be conducted by Auxier Chapter 18 DAV.
