John Leon Pelphrey, age 80 of Elna, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at his home.

John was born on April 11, 1940 in West Van Lear, Kentucky, to Cora Spradlin Pelphrey and Malcholm Pelphrey. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sister Ocie Carter, Viola Cruthers and Barbara Davis.

He is survived by his wife Eunice Burchett Pelphrey; two nieces, three nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

After retirement John and Eunice enjoyed extensive travels within the US and aboard.

John had several hobbies. He loved fishing in the Big Sandy as a small boy in West Van Lear and continued fishing until his death. He also enjoyed Hunting with his brother-in-laws and nephews, loved camping and hunting for mushrooms.

John was a 57 year mason and 57 year member of El Hasa Shriners in Ashland, Kentucky. In addition he was a member of Council Commandery Chapter, 32 ^nd Scottish Rites, and the Order of the Eastern Star serving as Worthy and Grand Warden.

John's occupation was in the Oil Fields and Coal Mines. He lived and enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be sadly missed by his wife Eunice of 57 years and many friends and family.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Steve Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the Patty Flat Cemetery, Fuget, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2021 and 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021.

Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2021 by Salyersville Masonic Lodge #769.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to Shriners Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
