Obituary

Mary Sue Daniels, 71, of Thealka, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at UK King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky.

Born on July 9, 1954, in Johnson County, Kentucky, Mary Sue was the daughter of the late William "Bill" Smith and Sally Ann Estep Short. She was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to her family and those she loved.

Mary Sue was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Roberta Fannin; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Patsy Daniels; her sister, Sherry (Jimmy) Bush; her brothers-in-law, Tiny Daniels, and P Jack Daniels (Kathy Meadows).

She leaves behind her loving husband, James Virgil "Bubby" Daniels, of Paintsville.

She is also survived by her daughter, Tabitha Jennings and husband Chris of Thealka, Kentucky; her son-in-law, Bryan Fannin of Thealka, Kentucky; her sister, Sharon Blanton and husband Tony of River, Kentucky; her mother, Sally Ann Estep Short; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and special caregivers Missy Adkins, Nancy Powell, and Tammy McClure, and many dear friends.

Mary Sue was a proud grandmother to Dustin (Micha) Hayden, Jordan Jennings, Ryan Fannin, Brittany Fannin, Kayleigh Daso, Gunner Fannin, and Beverly Jennings.

She was also blessed with eleven great-grandchildren: Bronx Hayden, Lynlee Hayden, Indie Hayden, Ellie Saylor, Brynlee Fannin, Kaylynn Sherington, Electra Fannin, Jamerson Fannin, Taylynn Fannin, Princeton Daso, and Henry Hughes.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 6, 2026 in the chapel of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home with James VanHoose, Venny VanHoose, and Larry Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville. Friends may visit at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home on Saturday, July 4, 2026 from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.; on Sunday July 5, 2026 from 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M.; and on Monday July 6, 2026 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 A.M.

Jones-Preston Funeral Home is both honored and privileged to be entrusted with all final arrangements for Mrs. Mary Sue Daniels.
