Roger Dean Tackett, age 72, of Flat Gap, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Community Hospice, Ashland, Kentucky.

Dean was born June 14, 1950 in Johnson County, Kentucky, son of the late Oka Ethchel Tackett and Jessie Frazier Tackett. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers, Murl Tackett, James Tackett, Gerald Tackett, Danny Tackett and Donald Tackett and three sisters, Virginia LeMaster, Betty Jean Tackett and Charolette Thacker.

He is survived by four sisters, Peggy Lemaster and Francis (Daniel) Scott of Staffordsville, Kentucky, Sue Blair of Springfield, Ohio, and Judy (Joe) Young of Beattyville, Kentucky; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2023 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Allen Fannin, Hershel Jude and Ronnie Spriggs officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home from 12:00 Noon until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023 and 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Masonic services will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Saturday.

Full military honors will be conducted Sunday by Auxier Chapter 18 DAV.

Dean belonged to the Flat Gap Masonic Lodge 616, an Ordained United Baptist preacher, a member of Cold Springs United Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army serving from November 1972 until September 1977. Medals he received were National Defense Service Medal, Rifle M-16 Expert Badge, Pistol Caliber .45 Expert Badge, and Good Conduct Medal.
