Scott S. Craft, age 88, of Lowmansville, Kentucky, widower of the late Deborah Castle Craft, passed away Friday, March 20th, 2026, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his beloved family.  He slipped away peacefully following a brief illness to go to his eternal reward.

Scott was born on September 1st, 1937, in Paintsville, Kentucky.  He was the first child of the late T. Scott and Helen Vanhoose Craft.  Scott grew up and attended school over the years in both Louisa and Paintsville.  His childhood was one of love and laughter, filled with adventure and joy, surrounded by his parents and his beloved brother and sister, among countless collateral relatives across the region.  He was a most proud graduate of Paintsville High School, class of 1956, and later attended Eastern Kentucky University. He joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country with great pride across the globe during his enlistment.  Ultimately, Scott returned to Paintsville and began a lifelong commitment to F.S. Vanhoose and Company, the business started by his grandfather.  He would serve the company for decades in various capacities, including Vice President and Chairman of the Board of Directors.  After retirement from the family business, Scott enjoyed his deserved many years of family gatherings and a life of deep fulfillment.

Scott was married to Deborah Castle on December 27th, 1971, at Mayo Memorial United Methodist Church in Paintsville.  Their great, enduring love persisted for just shy of fifty-four years until Debbie's passing in December of 2025.  It was a true partnership of like souls, and one which nourished and sustained them both over decades of a grand adventure together, filled with travel and deep love, through the thick and thin of lives well-lived.  Over the years, their home was a true community gathering place where all were welcome and were treated like royalty, with Scott and Debbie providing friendship, counsel, and comfort to countless people.

Scott was a member of Mayo Memorial United Methodist Church, the Masonic Grand Lodge of Kentucky, the United States Marine Corps League, and formerly served on the Regional Board of the United States Selective Service System, among countless other civic and community roles in which he served over the years.  He is survived by his brother, D. Mike (Debbie) Craft, his sister, Anne Lynne Craft Lemos, and a nephew, Michael Scott Craft. They will all struggle to fill the void of vibrant life and true joy Scott brought to this world, rejoice that he is reunited with his great love in heaven, and wait with great anticipation to join him once more in a grand family reunion.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 12 Noon Wednesday, March 25, 2026 in the chapel of the Jones-Preston Funeral Home with David Castle officiating. Entombment will follow at the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Staffordsville. Friends may visit at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Tuesday, March 24, 2026 and on Wednesday from 11 A.M. until the time of funeral services at 12 Noon.
