Sophia Layne, age 82, of West Van Lear, KY passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Spring Hope, NC. Sophia was born July 14, 1938 in Johnson County, KY, daughter of the late Bernard and Norma Perkins Francis. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, James Slone and second husband Charles Layne, also one brother Bernard A. Francis, Jr.  and one nephew, Ronnie Baldwin.

She is survived by one daughter, Janie Rice (Danny) of Spring Hope, NC; one son, David Slone (Kelli) of Hayes, VA; one sister, Mary Baldwin (Clarence) Birmingham, AL; three grandsons, Tim Rice (Patti),  Brandon Rice(Amanda) ,PFC Alex Slone, six great granddaughters, Hailey (Michael), Tailar, Camryn, Cassidy, Daizy and Laila, one great, great grandson Dallas and one great nephew, Matthew Baldwin (Keagan).

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2020 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Ronnie Spriggs and Roger Hill officiating. Burial will follow at the Perkins Cemetery, Swamp Branch, KY. There will be no public visitation.
