Tilden Ray Salyer, age 92, of Paintsville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023 at his home.

Tilden was born September 2, 1931 in Johnson County, Kentucky, son of the late Ray L. Salyer and Gladys Howard Salyer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Harold L. Salyer, Lowell G. Salyer and Wilma Salyer Wooten.

He is survived by two nieces, Carolyn K. Tyree of Harvest, Alabama and Ann Ricks of Ypsilanti, Michigan; "My Girls", Pat "Junior" Cain and Lou Riffe-Tackett; and special friends, Dave and Marcy Estep, David Allen Estep, Debbie Hackworth, Jennifer Witten May, Julie Witten Ali, and Chris Estep.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Sunday, October 22, 2023 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Home. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 and 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, October 22, 2023.

Full military honors will be conducted by Auxier Chapter 18 DAV.

Tilden Ray Salyer was a Retired Major from the United States Air Force. He served our country with Honor and was a Proud veteran. He served his country from October 10, 1951 until October 31, 1971. During his service, he was a Strategic Bomber Pilot and the medals, badges, commendations, citations and campaign ribbons awarded or authorized were, Distinguished Flying Cross, Special Operations Group-28, Department of Air Force, headquarters 2nd Armored Division, Air force Commendation Medal, Special Operations Group-16, Mediterranean Air Command, National Defense Service Medal with 1/Bronze Star, Air Force Longevity Service Award with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Small Arms Expert Marksmanship, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Combat Readiness Medal.
