Vandora "Van" West, age 64, of Johnson County, Kentucky, passed away August 5, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Van was born on December 27, 1960, in Johnson County, Kentucky, to the late Thomas West (1910–1983) and Mildred Reynolds West (1933–1980). He remained deeply rooted in his Kentucky home throughout his life, living simply, loving deeply, and finding joy in the everyday things—old TV shows, a good plate of food, and a dry-witted joke.

Van lived a life full of heart, humor, and meaning. He loved classic movies, Westerns, and had a lifelong affection for the game of horseshoes. He often joked that he loved his family "more than horseshoes"—his own brand of Kentucky-style love.

Van was known for his orneriness, his sharp sense of humor, and his quiet but steady faith. Though he never married or had children of his own, Van shared a close bond with his family, who knew him as loyal, stubborn in the best way, and always quick to make them laugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother, David L. West (1958–2002). He is survived by his sister, Jennifer Nichols (Jerry); his nephew, David Anthony West (Christina); and his niece, Pamela West Koelbl (Pete). He also leaves behind six great-nephews and two great-nieces, who brought him joy and laughter in his later years.

Though his circle was small, his love ran deep. Van will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his simple but meaningful life, and the unforgettable stories he leaves behind.

Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 Noon Saturday, August 9, 2025 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Ronnie Spriggs officiating. Burial to follow in the Family Cemetery, West Van Lear, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Friday, August 8, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 Noon.
