James Andrew Preston

Owner | Funeral Director | Embalmer

Mr. James Andrew Preston now presides over the family business, in which he has worked for over 37 years. A native of Johnson County, he graduated from Paintsville High School and pursued higher education in two regional institutions, Mayo State Vocational School and Morehead State University. While studying Industrial Engineering, Mr. Preston found his true calling lay within his roots and changed course to pursue knowledge of the funeral industry. In March 1984, he enrolled in the Mid-America College of Funeral Service, Jeffersonville, IN, and received his degrees in Funeral Director and Embalmer. February 1, 1985, James returned home to start his career in Funeral Service. By 1989, he was promoted to Manager of Jones-Preston Funeral Home, overseeing the daily operations of the highly successful business. In 2004, he took on part ownership and by 2008 had become the sole owner of the enterprise. Mr. Preston is highly engaged in the Johnson County community, having lived and served here most of his life. He is a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Paintsville and has been a member of the Paintsville Masonic Lodge 381 F. &A.M. for 25 years. Civic-minded, Mr. Preston has served the city of Paintsville in the positions on the Board of Planning and Zoning as well as several terms on the City Council. He is also credited for aiding in the development of Eastern Kentucky infrastructure through new roads and highways, leading the relocation of several thousand graves. Additionally, he holds state honors including the title of Kentucky Colonel (1996) and membership in the Covington Scottish Rite and the El Hasa Shrine. Professional affiliations include the Better Business Bureau, Paintsville Chamber of Commerce, National Funeral Directors Association, Kentucky Funeral Directors Association, Kentucky Funeral Directors Burial Association, and Eastern Kentucky Funeral Directors Association.

Glenda Blair

Funeral Director | Insurance Agent

Glenda has been working at Jones-Preston for over 28 years as a lady attendant, a licensed insurance representative and secretary/bookkeeper and a Licensed Funeral Director.

Jeremy Hyden

Embalmer | Manager | Funeral Director | Deputy Coroner

Jeremy is a 1999 graduate of Johnson Central High School. He studied mortuary science at Mid-America College of Funeral Service in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where he received an Associate Degree of Applied Science and Outstanding Achievement Award. In October of 2001, Jeremy was awarded the distinction of Kentucky Colonel by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Jeremy has been with our funeral home for 19 years and has over 25 years of experience in the funeral business. February of 2023, Jeremy became a Certified Deputy Coroner. Jeremy resides in Sitka with his wife, Dr. Robin Hyden, son Jaxson, and daughter Matilynn.

Kendra Lyons

Funeral Director

Kendra Lyons is a 2008 graduate of Paintsville High School. She is the daughter of Rick and Aimee Lyons. Kendra has been with Jones-Preston Funeral Home since June 2020. She has 6 years experience in the funeral business. She resides in Thelma with her children, Kyler and Kaison, Kinsley and Kingston.

Dr. Robin Hyden

Apprentice Funeral Director | Embalmer

Dr. Robin Hyden joined the staff of Jones-Preston Funeral Home in December 2021. She resides in Denver with her husband, Jeremy, and children, Jaxson and Matilynn. Along with working at the funeral home, Robin works for the Kentucky Department of Education and is the owner of Bright Side Learning and Tutoring.

Harry Neal Frisby

Harry Neal Frisby has served the community for over 50 years in multiple roles. He has previously served as Lead Pastor at Eastside Freewill Baptist Church, retired from BellSouth, and is currently the deputy coroner for Johnson County. Harry Neal resides in Paintsville with his wife Linda.

Richard Neal Butcher

Funeral Director | Embalmer | Insurance Agent

Richard Neal Butcher began his career in the funeral industry in 2009 at 15 years old at Preston Funeral Home. After graduating from Johnson Central High School in 2012, he served his apprenticeship and went on to Mid America College of Funeral Service and graduated with an Associate of Applied Science Degree on March 27, 2015. On April 2, 2015, he passed both portions of the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards on his first attempt. He furthered his education, and on September 22, 2017, he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Funeral Service Management. Neal remained at Preston Funeral Home until September 1, 2023, at which point he furthered his career at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home until August 1, 2025. He resides at Hager Hill with his wife Emily Stapleton Butcher, son Richard Elias "Eli" Butcher, and their golden retriever Nala. Neal is a Kentucky Licensed Funeral Director, Embalmer, and Licensed Insurance Agent.
